Support our Troops

(Original article written in The Sarasota Breeze "The Military Officers Associaton of Sarasota, Inc." Newsletter)
What do Alba, TX and Longview, TX (and other unknown towns) have in common with Sarasota, FL?
No, this is not a riddle or a test. The answer is MOAS, our own MOAA Chapter. Dedicated, compassionate patriots have found our website and have joined us in “Operation S-O-T” Alba, TX – estimated population in July 2005, 479. Median household income $23,438 (year 2000), median house value $52,438 (year 2000). Beverly Schwed lives there. Neither you nor I personally know Beverly but she is one of our own dedicated and compassionate patriots. She found our web site while browsing, called me and signed on to send packages. Here is the note I received when I asked her via e-mail how she had done:
“I ordered 250 boxes to begin with, they went so quick I decided to order 250 more for our country fair since that was our theme, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. We had some bad weather that day Sept.23rd , and didn’t move that many boxes. So I took boxes to our churches, to the schools, and any where I could think of. I believe we moved 300-325 boxes I still have quite a few to go so each event we have I will take my boxes. Our community may be small but our hearts are big. Our thoughts and prayers are with our troops. Come home soon and safe. May god bless us all.
Signed: Beverly Schwed, Member of the Alba Activities Committee.”
