March 20061st Quarter Report

The Alba Economic Development Committee closed out the first quarter of 2006 by meeting in their regular monthly session.

Discussions were held for a billboard near the downtown area. Signage for the businesses located within the Alba Economic Development area was also brought up. Since the downtown area of Alba is arranged around a centrally located square, attention will be focused from the square area and progress from downtown outward.

The committee is considering financially contributing to new playground equipment for the city park. More discussions will be held at a future meeting.

The park, located at the junction of Highways 69 and 182, is one of the first things that is seen as visitors approach the city from the west. Several functions have been held in that area, and more are in the planning stages. Visitors and citizens of Alba alike have enjoyed the use of the facilities that are already there.

The state comptroller's office has been contacted for a list of sales taxpayers within the Economic Development Area. With this information, the EDC can finalize a plan for plaque presentations or acknowledgment and appreciation for the businesses. These are the businesses that collect the sales tax that is contributed for economic development.

Regular Economic Development Committee meetings are open to the public. For more information contact Alba City Hall.
