November 2006

The City of Alba Economic Development Corporation met in their regular meeting with presentations from two people. Dan Boutwell of Municipal Planning Resources Group, Inc. explained the tentative zoning map. The United States Department of Agriculture Rural Specialist John W. Milligan also gave a presentation.

A tentative zoning map and a Comprehensive Land Use Plan And Thoroughfare Plan flyer for Alba was offered for review. Boutwell explained both of these during the meeting. The zoning map is a starting place, and will be revised as necessary before presenting it to the City Council. The flyer is an eight page booklet with brief information on history, land use, legislative authority, plans and explanation of zoning classifications.

The EDC will discuss these further at the next meeting after each member has had the opportunity to thoroughly review all of the material, including the basic draft of the zoning ordinance.

Milligan presented the EDC members with a booklet entitled Programs for Community and Economic Development. He listed some of the services available to rural cities through the USDA. The public can access this information as well as programs for individuals and businesses through the website www.rurdev.usda.gov.

A basic prototype of the new website for Alba was presented by EDC member Judy Griggs. Development of the logo will be next.

Regular Economic Development Committee meetings are open to the public. The December meeting will be Monday, December 18th, due to the Christmas holidays, but is otherwise the last Monday of the month at 2:00 at Alba City Hall.
