February 2007
The agenda for the February meeting of the Economic Development Corporation kept the Board Members on their toes. In addition to the regular items such as new business and old business, all of the entries for the City of Alba Logo contest were evaluated. The judging process will be lengthy due to the overwhelming response and entries.
The winners of the logo contest will be individually notified and also announced through the media.
Wade Admire, City Council member and President of the Alba Activities Committee submitted a request to the EDC for updating the electrical work on the square. The EDC took his request and presentation complete with bid under consideration and voted unanimously to fund all or part of that project.
In other action, the board voted to help sponsor the Wild Hog Cook-Off that will be held in conjunction with the Toyota Bass classic at Lake Fork in April. Two thousand dollars will be going to this project. This is the second year for the Wild Hog Cook-Off and having it supported and endorsed by the fishing tournament is a big boost to Alba. Mr. Admire with the Alba Activities Committee is the organizer for the cook-off which was started 2006. For more information, contact Admire at 903-765-3278. Admire and the committee is looking for contestants to enter the contest with their own cookers. Meals on Wheels will be the beneficiary of the proceeds from this event.
In old business the EDC voted to purchase two Certificates of Deposit in the amount of ten thousand dollars each. The majority of the funds will still be available for expenditures already obligated and other disbursements.
Revised copies of the new brochure for the City of Alba were received for review and will be discussed at a later meeting. The new draft of the comprehensive plan was also received and copies will be made for each board member for assessment. Once these items are approved by the EDC, they will be presented to the Alba City Council for their consideration.
The Alba Economic Development Corporation meets on a monthly basis at Alba City Hall on the last Monday of the month at 2:00. There are exceptions such as holidays when the meeting date and time are worked around holidays and special called meetings. An agenda will be posted at City Hall. These meetings are open to the public.
