Come on out to the Alba annual Wild Hog Cook-off fundraiser for the Alba Public Library and Museum.  Come join the fun.  Visit our Library and Museum now open.  Cash prizes provided by Alba Economic Development Corp.

 

1ST Prize: $1,000   2nd place $700,  3rd place $300

 

 

Presentation prize is $25.00

 

 Beef Brisket Division Pays

 

1ST Prize $300

Prize fund Supplied and guaranteed by the Alba Economic Development Commission

  • Cooking entry fee is $30 per team per division
  • No alcohol permitted on premises.
  • Judging will begin on Saturday, April 20 at 11:00 AM for wild hog and 11:30 for Brisket. Meat sample tray will be delivered to specified judging area at City Hall.  Late entrieds will be disqualified.  Optional Artistic Entry Tray is to be submitted at 11:00 AM.
  • Teams may set up on Friday, April 19 Beginning at 5:00 PM.  Each cook sitemust be manned overnight for safety issues.  Teams with unattended cook sites will be disqualified.
  • Wild hog Division:40 pounds of meat minimum shall be cooked.  Wild hog only- no domestic pork
  • Beef Brisket Division: 12 pounds of meat minimum shal be cooked.
  • All smokers must be charcoal or wood burning only.  No electric cookers allowed.
  • Allo meat must be cooked on site.  Pre-marinating and pre-applied dry rubs are permitted.
  • Water and electricity will be available. 
  • Judging will be strictly anonymous.  Numbers will be assigned to each sample platter at the time of judging.
  • Meat will be judged on three categories based on taste, tenderness and appearance.  Up to 10 points will be awarded per category.  Highest total points wins first, second highest wins second, ect.
  • All remaining meat is to be delivered to the fire stationby 11:30 for community lunch.

Alba has a new "Welcome to Alba" brick sign at Broadway and US Highway 69.  Local resident Lloyd Swoape built the sign and members of the Iris Garden Club of Golden under direction of Sherry Lindsey and Ann Medlin planted seasonal annuals will complement the permanent plants for eye appeal year-round. Keep looking for our new gizebo comming soon.
